Report: Hit game Pokemon Go rumored to appear in Russia by Sunday

MOSCOW, Jul 14 (PRIME) -- Popular mobile game Pokemon Go, which uses elements of augmented reality, could appear in Russia by Sunday, while it is currently available in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand and Germany, business daily Vedomosti reported late Wednesday on its Web site, quoting several sources.

A domestic Web site of the game says the project will be launched “soon.” Prior to the official appearance, some of Russian users create U.S. accounts to download the game.

Dmitry Burkovsky, vice president of firm Xsolla, said Pokemon Go has been the biggest release of a mobile application by all parameters in the history of the mobile market. There are lots of popular mobile games, but nothing is close, because their audiences grew.

According to researcher SensorTower, the number of downloads of Pokemon Go in Google Play and AppStore has already exceeded 15 million. Pokemon Go earns U.S. $1.6 million per day.

The game’s application is free for download, but contains pay options. It offers users to train their Pokemons, the word originated from “pocket monsters,” in real environment and look for other creatures of other players.

Pokemon Go was created by Niantic, founded by John Henke, who also participated in the creation of Google Maps and Google Streets. Niantic was spun off Google in August 2015 and received $30 million from The Pokemon Company, Google and Nintendo. The Pokemon Company is owned by Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures.
